Germany V Hungary Exciting Future But Patience Needed For Julian Nagelsmanns Side

Germany v Hungary: 'Exciting future but patience needed for Julian Nagelsmann's side'

Hansi Flick's Hungary reign begins

After a disappointing Euro 2020, Germany faced Hungary in their first match under new manager Hansi Flick. The hosts were looking to make a statement under their new boss, but were held to a 2-2 draw by a determined Hungary side.

Flick made a number of changes to the team that had failed to impress at the Euros, bringing in the likes of Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and Karim Adeyemi to freshen up the attack. The new-look Germany started the match brightly and took the lead through Timo Werner in the 10th minute.

Hungary fightback

However, Hungary showed great character to fight back into the game, with Roland Sallai equalising in the 24th minute. The visitors then took the lead in the 66th minute through Callum Styles, before Germany salvaged a point through Leon Goretzka's 84th-minute strike.

Exciting future but patience needed

The draw was a disappointing result for Germany, but there were some positives to take from the performance. The team showed a lot of attacking intent and created a number of chances, particularly in the first half.

Flick will be pleased with the performances of some of his young players, particularly Musiala and Wirtz, who both showed glimpses of their potential. However, there is still plenty of work to do for Germany, particularly in defence, where they looked vulnerable at times.

Overall

The 2-2 draw against Hungary was not the ideal start to Hansi Flick's reign as Germany manager. However, there were some positives to take from the performance, and the team showed a lot of attacking intent. Flick will now have to work on improving the defence and finding a way to get the best out of his young players.

With the World Cup just over a year away, Germany will need to show more consistency and quality if they are to challenge for the title. Flick is a proven winner, and he will be confident that he can get the best out of this talented squad.
