Brighton appoint Roberto De Zerbi as manager

Brighton have appointed former Shakhtar Donetsk and Sassuolo boss Roberto De Zerbi as manager.

The Italian, 43, has been out of work since leaving Shakhtar in July following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

De Zerbi has signed a four-year deal at the Amex Stadium, replacing Graham Potter, who left to join Chelsea last month.

The Italian has earned a reputation as one of the most exciting young coaches in Europe, having guided Sassuolo to successive eighth-placed finishes in Serie A.

He also led Shakhtar to the Ukrainian Premier League title and Cup double in 2022, before guiding them to the Champions League knockout stages for the first time.

De Zerbi is expected to bring an attacking style of play to Brighton, who have struggled for goals this season.

The Seagulls are currently 14th in the Premier League table, having won just three of their first 13 games.

De Zerbi's first game in charge will be against Liverpool at Anfield on October 1.
